Progressing Into Tech World

IT’S NEVER TOO LATE TO START ALL OVER AGAIN!

I'm from Bangalore, India, and everyone who has visited the city can tell you two things:

  • The traffic congestion are ridiculous.
  • Every second person you speak with is a computer expert.

  •

In this part of the country, most parents encourage their children to pursue engineering as a profession. I was perplexed as a student, unsure of what career path I wanted to take. I started as a Sales Executive, doing genuine selling, and then worked on the backend for other companies during which I gained practical experience with Microsoft Office. However, In pursuit of my Aviation degree, I joined an airline after completing my academics as a Customer Service Officer, where I worked for nearly seven years and rose through the ranks to become a manager in the airline industry, thanks to my hard work and dedication. I was still dissatisfied with my job and was inspired by my younger brother, who is a computer programmer.

It always fascinated me when my brother talked about his work, talking about coding languages that I’d never heard of as if they were words in a vast ocean I knew nothing about. I used to wonder if I could ever swim in that ocean, but I soon realized I would be completely lost in it. And who knew if I’d be any good at it. Besides, I’d invested far too much time and effort in my current job to contemplate a change. Even if I made a mistake in choosing my profession, it was my fault and I had to live with the consequences. Everyone has had a crazy year in 2020. It taught us to appreciate the little things in life. It made us appreciate each day as a gift that we should make the most of. Everything can change in a matter of seconds. It also encouraged me to take risks.

It is possible to be motivated from anywhere and by anyone, and I was deeply motivated by my younger brother’s knowledge and skills about programming languages, and as a result, I pursued Front End Web Development as a career option because computers have always been a passion of mine but had never pursued it because I came from a different background. Today I’m here, trying to make a name for myself as a web developer ten years after deciding to avoid the field entirely. I can’t help but wonder how simple things would have been if I had chosen this in the first place. However, that ship has sailed. Maybe I’ll never be able to undo what the last few years have taught me. Perhaps I would not have appreciated things if they had come too easily. Nothing, after all, can replace experience.

It caused me to understand that it was OK to adjust my perspective. It was OK to begin new. There is a saying : ‘You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.’ So here I am, attempting to be a web developer in 2021. Attempting to learn languages, programming I’d never known about. Expecting to build stunning websites and make cool applications. Attempting to get that dream job. What’s more perhaps one day, help other people have a comparable excursion like my own.
